So my blog has dropped to the sidelines, as has many other things – but it is a good thing as I have been inundated with orders and making cakes left right and center so I can’t really complain (you might though if you’re totally loving my blogs, in which case it sucks for you :D)

Life has changed in many ways since this time last year, but it has also remained the same with the Victorian Government constantly holding the threat of lockdown over our heads! Just when we think things are going back to normal, they throw another curveball at us just to keep us on our toes.

I had booked my ticket to go to the Cake Bake and Sweets show in Melbourne for July, but as of today I’m feeling as though it may not go ahead, or if it does it will be very different to what was planned, and that is disappointing for all us cake makers. But as the world keeps spinning, so must we (I’m feeling quite philosophical at the moment, and FYI I actually studied philosophy at university, and I hated it!). I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that it will go ahead, as I am so pumped to see all that our caking world has to offer, as well as buy too many things that I probably don’t need!

Apart from all the baking and decorating, I have been flat out making embossers and cookie cutters for all the amazing local cookie artists in Mildura – they are so talented and it’s been fantastic to meet so many of them. Here’s a secret as well, I much prefer making the tools for them to use, rather than making the actual cookies themselves!! It’s no secret though that I don’t like doing the same thing all the time so I’m loving creating different cutters and embossers as well as keeping my brain actively learning with all the designing and creativity. I’m loving the challenges and I’m really looking forward to what is to come with all of that.

I have also re-found my love of making macarons, I have finally perfected the art of creating them (even if they do fail occasionally) and have added them back into the menu. Having less and less failures is positive and gives you confidence and my goal for 2021 is to not only better myself, but try not to be afraid of failure – sh*t happens all the time but life keeps going. So we need to keep trying, enjoy life and of course eat cake!!!

Until next time (when I remember to write a blog that is),

Brey xo
